Only YOU have the power to reach your goal.

You are unhappy with your weight and want to lose a few pounds. We’ve all been there and came up with the same excuses: Work gets in the way, family responsibilities take priority, your night class throws off your meal schedule. In reality, it’s not your job, your family, or school that is keeping you from reaching your goal; it’s your mindset that is sabotaging you. Starting your weight loss journey isn’t easy, but it’s a much more difficult struggle to stick with it. Knowing the reasons why so you can deal with them is a big part of the battle. Huffington Post shares some of the reasons:

1. Fear of failure

You know the steps and changes you need to make, but you’re afraid to fail. Avoiding the challenges won’t make them disappear, instead, face them head on and put all the research you’ve spent hours on to good and productive use.

2. Procrastination

Stop waiting for “Monday” or after the holidays are over to being your new regimen. Start now because if you don’t, you are still letting fear win the battle. There will never be a perfect time to start than now because “later” is too easy to keep pushing back.

3. Self-doubt

Stop holding yourself back. If you don’t give yourself that first push, you’ll never start, and you won’t get the results you’re looking for. Take advice from Teddy Roosevelt: “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.”

4. Avoiding the truth

You’re aware that your eating and sleeping habits are poor, but you don’t want to admit it because you’ll feel guilty about not having self control. Once you become honest with yourself, you are set free from your limitations.

5. Others are poisoning you

You will always meet negative people who will criticize you for any effort you make and every milestone you reach. Most of the time, their trying to bring you down is about their own insecurities. Surround yourself with positive people who will support you rather than drag you down.

6. You’re too hard on yourself

It’s okay to add extra cheese on your pasta. One salad isn’t going to help you drop 10 pounds and one meal of pasta won’t make you gain 10 pounds. If you keep judging yourself too harshly you will become your own worst enemy. Keep a positive attitude with yourself.

7. You expect your diet to be perfect

The perfect diet, like the perfect body, does not exist and never will. What is ‘perfect‘ for me, may be terrible for you. Focus on your diet and how you can improve it or else you will be stuck and no progress will be made.

8. You’re not consistent

Consistency is probably the biggest challenge. In order to reach your goal and lose 10 to 20 pounds, you need to lose one pound at a time and keep reminding yourself how good that accomplishment felt so that you’re motivated to continue and complete your journey.
